Expectations
I’ve never been to Africa. Heck, I haven’t left America in almost 10 years. I don’t really know what to expect, to be honest. I know, however, what not to expect, and that’s comfort. 3 months of going to a completely new place, let alone a 3rd world country, is enough to cause some unsettling in my stomach. I’ll be away from everything I usually look forward to from January to April; friends at school, family, my girlfriend, the NCAA basketball tournament, and even the SUPER BOWL! That’s ok, as the Hoosiers and the Bears have no chance of participation. 🙂
I try not to have expectations because it removes the false interpretation of the future, formed by my own desires and wishes. Of course I can’t help but have some, but in this case I try to focus on what God has to say about venturing into a new place to do His will. He says that He will be with us until the end of the age. He will never leave us or forsake us. He has begun a work in us to grow us and be there for us. What I expect out of this trip is to grow in the Lord and make His name known, because that is what He wants out of us and what He promises will happen.
I’m also excited to be done support raising and the stress that comes with it. If you could, pray for me and that. I’m about $1000 away with a bunch of people yet to give. Thanks.
